Female Riders Race Team - Video Edit No. 1
FEMALE RIDERS RACE TEAM launched in 2016 bringing together a talented group of riders from cross-country (XC), enduro and downhill (DH) female mountain bikers together as a single team. Our aim is to to inspire and support young and upcoming talent with their future in bike racing. We wanted to build a team of mixed-age riders to share experience, support and encourage each other.
The video was shot at Steve Peat's Steel City 2016 event and Bushey Heath Farm (website) in the Peak District. As a group of riders from across the UK, we're well used to April weather being changeable, but four seasons in one day on repeat was insane.
On a sunny Friday morning we all set-off from our homes, as far apart as the Scottish Highlands to the British south coast, and made our way in cars and vans to the Peak District. We intended to meet as a team and do a bit of filming, then race at Steel City on Saturday. So with a bit of footage in the bag and bellies full of homemade cake from Lisa, it all looked promising.
However, after comfy night in the posh bunk house we awoke to find thick snow outside - not quite what we were expecting! At Greno Woods the Steel City race organizers were brushing the snow off the start ramp to allow practice to begin. We then proceeded to get bright sunshine and warmth, torrential rain, sun, hail, freezing cold, torrential rain before more snow to end the day. Surprisingly the crazy weather didn't really effect track conditions. Initially Roz, Elena, Ellen and Bex were worried about getting enough speed to hit the double, but the track did dry out enough after the first practice run.
Despite the weather, Steel City has always been a great event and 2016 was no exception. There was even chance to see a few legends of mountain biking including Steve Peat himself, Tracy Moseley and Joey Gough.
The traditional finish at the bottom of the bomb hole provided some thrills and big spills as always. If you haven't been to this event it is well worth watching to see if it is arranged again next year and applying for the entry ballot.
As for us, we'll be putting out a new edit soon!
